There are 5 depression hotlines in Belgium that you can contact for free help if you're experiencing the following symptoms:

  • Your mood has worsened in the recent weeks
  • You could feel slower in your movement, speech, and reactions than usual
  • You became irritable for no reason
  • You are unable to think
  • You wake up during the night or at dawn and cannot fall asleep again
  • You need to force yourself to eat
  • You cannot concentrate and have difficulties memorizing things
  • You feel guilty, and you loath yourself

These signs of depression can feel confusing and scary. It is normal to feel out of place. However, with the right kind of support, you can begin to feel hopeful and positive about your life and future again.

Depression can cause you to feel that things are hopeless and that you won't get better. But depression is a treatable disorder. With the right support, you can find ways to cope and heal. Reaching out to a dedicated volunteer or counselor in Belgium can be a couragous first step.
